A square LCD is selected by native pixel matrix, active area, outer dimensions and system interface—not by diagonal size alone. Confirm the visible window, resolution, controller path, brightness, touch stack, connector position and expected quantity before choosing a module.

Small square TFT modules often connect directly to an embedded processor through SPI, MCU, RGB or MIPI. Larger 720×720 and 768×768 modules commonly use LVDS and may require an HDMI or DisplayPort controller. The controller must support the panel’s native timing; outputting a conventional 16:9 resolution does not guarantee correct square scaling.
Design the user interface at the native square resolution whenever possible. For circular gauges, avionics instruments and simulators, verify the visible window and bezel mask without assuming the LCD active area is round. If a square module is placed behind a circular cover opening, pixels outside that opening remain part of the panel.
