Smart Home Displays: Redefining IoT Interfaces
Break free from the rectangle. LCDind empowers next-generation smart appliances with innovative Round LCDs, Rotary Knob Displays, and compact Square TFT modules. Design intuitive, space-saving interfaces for the modern connected home.
Challenges in Modern Smart Home UI
Consumer expectations for smart appliances have shifted from simple functionality to premium aesthetic experiences. Engineers face unique integration hurdles:
Why Choose LCDind for IoT?
We provide the complete optical stack for human-centric IoT devices, from form factor innovation to touch integration.
True Circular & Rotary Knob Displays
Don’t mask a square screen. We manufacture true Circular TFT LCDs (2.1″, 3.4″, 7″) with custom circular backlights. Our specialized “Knob Display” modules feature a center hole or magnetic encoder integration, allowing you to build intuitive rotary dials for ovens and thermostats.
1:1 Square Aspect Ratio Modules
Perfect for smart wall switches and control tiles. Our 1:1 aspect ratio Square LCDs (e.g., 4-inch 720×720) maximize pixel density for icon-based grid UIs, offering a smartphone-class touch experience in a compact footprint.
Transparent OLED Technology
Create futuristic overlays with our Transparent OLED modules. With 40% transparency, these self-emitting screens allow users to see physical objects behind the glass while overlaying dynamic digital information—ideal for premium audio gear and HUDs.

Engineering FAQ
How do I design a UI for a round display?
Designing for round screens requires centering UI elements. Standard rectangular coordinates still apply, but pixels outside the active circle are simply not displayed. We provide CAD drawings of the active area to help your UI team mask their canvas correctly.
Can I use a low-power MCU (like ESP32) to drive these screens?
Yes. While high-res screens use MIPI, we offer smaller circular/square modules (up to 4 inches) with SPI or MCU (8080/6800) interfaces, making them perfectly compatible with low-cost, low-power microcontrollers like ESP32 or STM32.
What is a "Knob Display"?
A Knob Display is a specialized module where a circular screen is stationary, but surrounded by a rotating mechanical ring (encoder). This allows the user to turn the ring to adjust values (like temperature) while the screen updates digitally in the center.
How do you achieve the "Dead Front" (hidden display) effect?
We use a combination of high-contrast IPS or OLED panels and custom-tinted cover glass. By precisely tuning the light transmittance of the cover glass to match the display’s true black levels, the screen becomes completely invisible when powered off, blending seamlessly into the appliance’s sleek exterior.
Does a circular LCD require a circular touch panel?
Not necessarily. While the active display area is circular, the TFT substrate and the projected capacitive (PCAP) touch sensor are often manufactured as a square or rectangle to route the FPC cables. We customize the top cover glass (CG) with black silk-screening to hide the non-circular borders, providing a perfect circular interactive area to the user.
What are the integration requirements for Transparent OLEDs?
Transparent OLEDs are self-emitting and do not require a backlight. However, because they have a high optical transmittance (typically around 40%), the physical background behind the screen within your device enclosure should ideally be dark or matte. This ensures that the illuminated digital UI elements maintain maximum contrast and readability.
